A Day in the Life: An Afternoon of Beatles Music

Concert Notes:
On September 9th, 2009 (9/9/9) the Beatles catalog was finally released remastered on CD after a two-decade-long wait. The following weekend, Vintage Vinyl harnessed the excitement of the re-release into A Day in the Life: An Afternoon of Beatles Music, their fourth tribute concert festival. Like BossFest before it, A Day in the Life consisted of a round table of acoustic performers followed by a full band set. This festival saw the return of some performers from Buddy Holly Lives, with The Riff Brothers joining mainstays Bruce Tunkel and Dylan Roth at the round table and The Grip Weeds performing as the headlining act.

Riff Brothers Mark Higgins & Joe Riccardello showcased their solid harmonies in their set, particularly in "Two of Us" and "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party." "Anna (Go to Him)" (admittedly not a Beatles original) featured soulful vocals by Dylan Roth, and Bruce Tunkel delivered haunting renditions of You've Got to Hide Your Love Away and Across the Universe. The Grip Weeds would later take the stage with some tight three-part harmonies and featured a performance the oft-forgotten "The Inner Light," played using a flute and an electric sitar. The show closed with all performers taking the stage and trading off lead vocals on "I Saw Her Standing There".
